GASHA is committed to supporting healthy environments for patients, clients, visitors, volunteers, staff and physicians. This commitment is supported by GASHA's Vision Statement:
Healthier people in communities working together for wellness, contributing to a healthier environment. A stable, sustainable integrated system that provides quality services to individuals families and communities.
There are many facets to creating healthier environments that promote physical, mental and spiritual well-being. These can include:
- Promoting healthy eating and physical activity;
- Providing quiet, reflective spaces as opportunities for reflection and relaxation;
- Policies that support healthier environments such as tobacco-free and scent-free policies;
- Supporting a more sustainable health system through "green health care" initiatives.
Working Towards Healthier Environments
The following are some ways that GASHA is working toward healthier environments:
Scent Free Environment
As part of our commitment to providing a healthy and safe environment, GASHA has a scent-free policy. The policy applies to everyone (including patients, clients, visitors. staff. volunteers, and contractors) to make sure they do not bring or wear scented products in GASHA facilities, services and programs.
Scented products contain chemicals which can cause migraines, nausea and even breathing problems for people with asthma, allergies and environmental illness.
No scents is good sense! If you are unsure if a product is safe to wear, a good rule of thumb is to just not wear it.
Tobacco Free Policy
GASHA has new colourful signs and posters posted near external doors of all our facilities to remind everyone that we have a tobacco free policy.
